MARIJUANA & DRUG OFFENSES

Keates Law Office > FAQs > Warrants

I have a warrant for my arrest. What should I do?

If you have an active warrant for your arrest, officers or court personnel can take you into custody at any time. Depending on the circumstances, the longer a warrant is active; the less chance a judge will allow you to remain out of custody if you turn yourself in.

Travis County allows what is known as a Walkthrough, where you meet with an attorneyto pre-qualify for a personal release bond or a bond in the amount of your bail. Then, your attorney will accompany you to the surrender desk (in the Courthouse) where you surrender to the booking process.

It's important to note that on most Walkthroughs, you do not enter the jail, and instead remain in the Courthouse.

After a short period of time, usually between 30 minutes and two hours, you are released on your posted bond. The staff will give you bond paperwork as well as your arraignment / initial court appearance date.

Call us at 512-800-3741 so we can schedule a Walkthrough BEFORE the police knock on your door.
